User Research and Problem Definition
I spoke with a sampling of surfers about the frequency and duration of their time using forecasting apps relative to the interviewee's level of comfort surfing and with using apps in general. I noticed a positive relationship between the skill level and time spent checking forecasts.
Competitive Analysis
I evaluated some of the apps referenced in the preliminary user interviews as well as some other prominent weather apps. Design features, feedback from interviews, update history, and app store reviews were factored into the analysis.

Task Flows
One of my takeaways from the competitive analysis was the ease with which those apps passed from easily digestible summaries of information to much deeper and more specific information, and I wanted to retain that application of progressive disclosure.
